Strategy + Execution = Business Success

Business success can be achieved through strategic planning and execution. Project management is an essential skill for project managers and team members to set the goals and execute the planned strategies.

The recipe for successful project management is a blend of people, communication, processes and tools. Technology is easy, but when it comes to getting things done, teams/individuals play a crucial role. Project management has process steps as follows- initiation, planning, scheduling, executing, change management, controlling and closing. Your team members play different roles and contribute in the various phases of project management and execution.

Let us now consider these factors.

Align Team Goals – Successful Project Execution should be the goal of the entire team

Secure critical internal and external talent and build effectively aligned teams. Motivate your team members towards common goal. Everyone should be thinking about successful project execution. There should be cohesiveness in the team. Reward your members for successful execution of the project.

Clarity in Communication – Never give mixed messages

Members of the team play different roles. Each role has its own importance and is responsible for managing deliverable and communication to their stakeholders. Giving mixed messages by stating the agility can lead project in the chaotic direction. This is where we can implement the agile project management process. In the agile project management open collaboration platform with communication templates can help with effective communication strategy.

Project Management Processes

A {specification, design, procedure, test plan} that will not fit on one page cannot be understood.” – Mark Ardis

First break large components of planned strategy into small pieces. For example, an enterprise is planning to launch a Live Event. There is entire strategy planned around event management of this Live Event. Let us consider you’re responsible for project management of the email campaigns for this Live Event. Now apply your project management strategies to the campaign management as shown below.

Project Management Tools

My favorite tool is white boarding for initial requirements and then use online tools for project management such as, MS Project, Jira, Basecamp etc.

You might find several templates in the market on the project management process. The process I shared below also takes into consideration the change management which is the requirement of the agile project management system.
